When the team at Triathlete reviewed the Instinct 2 a few years ago, it was one of a very few smartwatches that earned five stars. Boasting infinite battery life (in some configurations), and an already amazing price point, the only downside was the screen size and lack of music/maps, but the 2X version makes up for it with a very very useful built-in LED flashlight.

“There’s pretty much nothing missing on the Instinct 2, and the price isn’t too tough a pill to swallow given the breadth of functions for sports, physio, and lifestyle—alongside the staggering battery life,” we wrote. “It’s rare that we give a smartwatch five stars at this price point, but in this case, it’s fully warranted.”

Apple Watch Series 10

“Ideal for die-hard Apple users, those with medical conditions, or the on-the-go athlete looking for a voice assistant,” is how Triathlete’s editors described the Apple Watch Series 10 in their “Best Smartwatches of 2025” roundup. It earned top marks for sports functions and lifestyle functions, while still rating four-out-of-five stars for GPS accuracy, heart-rate accuracy, and ease of use. “The most compelling reason to go with the Apple Watch 10 instead of a fitness watch is the extensive app store that allows you to customize the experience and track biometric data using connected devices, such as glucose or blood pressure monitors,” reviewers wrote. “Or, you simply love the Apple ecosystem and want all your devices to have the ultimate interconnectivity and don’t mind trading that for less training data.”

The Apple Watch Series 10 also made the list of the best running watches for women.

Outside’s endurance editorial director, Chris Foster, surprisingly calls the Osprey Talon 22 one of his favorite running backpacks—despite the fact that it’s made for hiking. “With a ton of venting, a low footprint on your back, and a crazy amount of suspension, straps, and load points, even though it’s not a traditional hydration pack, I still prefer it when heading out on really long runs where I’ll need a ton of stuff.”

While Foster notes that the weight is certainly higher than most hydration packs, the structure makes up for it by keeping the pack itself off his back. However, if you’re going to be doing a good amount of running, be sure to select a small size and not the “extended” version, so it can rest above your hips like a hydration pack (and not like a hiking backpack). If you’re not interested in taking a risk with this strategy, Foster recommends the also-on-sale Osprey Hydraulics LT 2.5 hydration bladder as a top choice for any hydration pack—regardless of brand.
